WHAT IS BRAVECTO?
Bravecto is a veterinary-grade parasiticide manufactured by MSD Animal Health (Intervet India Pvt. Ltd.), formulated with Fluralaner — a systemic isoxazoline compound. A single dose provides up to 12 weeks of continuous protection against fleas and ticks, making it one of the longest-acting parasite treatments available for dogs and cats in India.
Bravecto is available in two forms: chewable tablets for dogs and spot-on solution for both dogs and cats.
HOW BRAVECTO WORKS
Fluralaner enters the pet's bloodstream after administration. When fleas or ticks bite and feed, they are exposed to Fluralaner and die rapidly. Because the compound works through the bloodstream — not the skin surface — it remains fully effective even after bathing or swimming.
- Begins killing fleas within 2 hours of administration
- Achieves greater than 98% flea elimination within 8 hours
- Begins killing ticks within 12 hours
- Provides protection for up to 12 weeks from a single dose
- Effective against Ixodes, Rhipicephalus, Amblyomma, and Dermacentor tick species
BRAVECTO CHEWABLE TABLETS — WEIGHT VARIANTS FOR DOGS
Select the correct weight-band variant based on your dog's current body weight. Administering the wrong variant results in underdosing (reduced efficacy) or overdosing (risk of adverse effects).
| Dog Weight | Tablet Strength |
|---|---|
| 2 – 4.5 kg | 112.5 mg |
| 4.5 – 10 kg | 250 mg |
| 10 – 20 kg | 500 mg |
| 20 – 40 kg | 1000 mg |
| 40 – 56 kg | 1400 mg |
Approved for dogs aged 8 weeks and older, weighing at least 2 kg. Administer with food or just after a meal for best absorption and tolerability.
BRAVECTO SPOT-ON SOLUTION — FOR DOGS AND CATS
The spot-on formulation is applied directly to the skin at the back of the neck. It is the preferred format for cats and for dogs that refuse oral tablets.
- Avoid bathing or water exposure for at least 3 days after application
- After this period, normal bathing does not affect efficacy
- Select the correct spot-on variant by species and body weight

Frequently Asked Questions — Bravecto for Dogs & Cats
How long does one Bravecto dose protect my dog? ▼
One Bravecto chewable tablet provides 12 weeks (3 months) of protection against fleas and ticks. This is significantly longer than monthly spot-on or tablet treatments, making it a convenient choice for pet owners who find monthly dosing difficult to maintain.
How quickly does Bravecto start killing fleas and ticks after the first dose? ▼
Bravecto begins killing fleas within 2 hours of the first dose and achieves greater than 98% flea elimination within 8 hours. For ticks, it starts killing within 12 hours. The active ingredient fluralaner works by overstimulating the nervous system of parasites, causing rapid death on contact with the dog's blood.
Can Bravecto be given to puppies? ▼
Bravecto chewable tablets are approved for puppies aged 8 weeks and older, provided the puppy weighs at least 2 kg. Do not use Bravecto in puppies below this age or weight threshold. Always select the correct weight-band variant — underdosing reduces efficacy while the correct dose is clinically proven safe.
Should Bravecto chewable tablet be given with food? ▼
Yes. Bravecto is best given with food or just after a meal. Administering with food improves absorption and reduces the small chance of gastrointestinal upset. Most dogs accept the flavoured chewable tablet willingly — it can be offered as a treat or mixed into food if your dog is reluctant.
Can I bathe my dog after giving Bravecto? ▼
For Bravecto Chewable Tablets — yes, bathing, swimming, or shampooing has no effect on efficacy. The drug works through the bloodstream, not the skin surface, so water contact is irrelevant. For Bravecto Spot-On — avoid bathing or water exposure for at least 3 days after application to allow full absorption through the skin. After this period, normal bathing is fine.
Is Bravecto safe for breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs? ▼
The safety of Bravecto in breeding, pregnant, and lactating dogs has not been fully established through controlled clinical trials. Use only under veterinary supervision in these cases. Your vet will assess whether the benefit of flea and tick protection outweighs any potential risk for your individual dog's condition.
