Liver Tonic for Dogs — Hepatic Support Supplements & Liver Disease Management

Why Liver Disease in Dogs Is Often Caught Late

The liver performs over 500 metabolic functions — detoxification, bile production, protein synthesis, and drug metabolism, among them. Because the liver has a large functional reserve, dogs often show no symptoms until more than 70% of liver function is already compromised. This is why routine bloodwork in dogs above 6 years matters more than most owners realise.

Products for Hepatic Support

This section covers hepatoprotective supplements and medicines for dogs, including Samepet (SAMe + Silybin), Liverolin, Glutamax Forte, Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) tablets, and Milk Thistle-based supplements. SAMe and Silybin are the most evidence-supported hepatoprotective agents currently used in veterinary practice — both are available here in tablet and syrup formulations to suit different dog sizes.

When Supplements Are Not Sufficient

Liver disease can arise from chronic NSAID or steroid use, toxin ingestion, Leptospirosis, obesity, or breed-specific conditions like Labrador vacuolar hepatopathy. For dogs showing jaundice, abdominal fluid accumulation, or significant weight loss alongside elevated liver enzymes, in-hospital management is required before transitioning to home supplementation.
