Doxycycline is highly effective against Ehrlichia canis, Anaplasma, Rickettsia, Leptospira, Mycoplasma, and several other intracellular pathogens. It is also commonly recommended as part of the treatment protocol for canine heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis) to eliminate the symbiotic Wolbachia bacteria before adulticide therapy.

Indications
Recommended for the treatment of:
- Tick-borne rickettsial diseases

Mechanism of Action
Doxycycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing bacterial growth and multiplication. It is particularly effective against intracellular bacteria and several tick-borne pathogens.
Dosage & Administration
For Ehrlichia canis Infection

5 mg/kg body weight every 12 hours, or
- 10 mg/kg body weight once daily
Duration: 2–3 weeks
For Other Susceptible Infections
- 5–10 mg/kg body weight once daily
- Usually administered for up to 5 days, or as directed by your veterinarian.

Precautions
