It inhibits acetylcholinesterase (AchE), the enzyme responsible for breaking down acetylcholine (Ach), a neurotransmitter essential for nervous signal transmission. By inhibiting AchE, propoxur causes prolonged neuronal activity, leading to the paralysis and eventual death of parasites. Though it binds reversibly, the disruption is sufficient to eliminate infestations efficiently.
