WHAT IS POMISOL?
Pomisol is a prescription veterinary ear drop formulation manufactured by Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd. It is a 4-in-1 combination ear treatment designed specifically for dogs and cats suffering from bacterial, fungal, and mixed ear infections.
Unlike single-ingredient ear drops, Pomisol addresses all four aspects of ear infection simultaneously — killing bacteria, eliminating fungi, reducing inflammation, and relieving pain — in a single application.

HOW EACH INGREDIENT WORKS
Ofloxacin — The Antibiotic
A fluoroquinolone antibiotic that stops bacterial reproduction. Effective against the most common bacterial ear pathogens in dogs including Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, and Proteus species.
Clotrimazole — The Antifungal
Targets fungal cell membranes directly. Highly effective against Malassezia pachydermatis — the yeast responsible for the majority of fungal ear infections in Indian dogs.
Betamethasone Dipropionate — The Anti-Inflammatory
A potent topical corticosteroid that rapidly reduces swelling, redness, and heat inside the ear canal. Reduces the intense itching that causes dogs to scratch and shake their heads constantly.
Lignocaine HCl — The Pain Reliever
A local anaesthetic that provides immediate relief from ear pain. Makes application more comfortable for the pet and easier for the owner.
WHEN VETERINARIANS PRESCRIBE POMISOL
Otitis Externa — The most common ear condition in Indian dogs. Inflammation of the outer ear canal caused by bacteria, fungi, or both. Signs include head shaking, ear scratching, foul odour, and brown or yellow discharge.
Malassezia Ear Infections — Yeast overgrowth causing dark brown waxy discharge and intense itching. Extremely common in Labradors, Cocker Spaniels, and Beagles.
Mixed Bacterial and Fungal Infections — When both bacteria and fungi are present simultaneously. Pomisol's 4-in-1 formula treats both without requiring separate medications.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS — POMISOL EAR DROPS
My dog keeps shaking his head and scratching his ear — can Pomisol help? ▼
Yes. Head shaking and ear scratching are the classic signs of ear infection in dogs. Pomisol's combination of antibiotic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and pain relief ingredients addresses the infection and the discomfort at the same time. See your vet first to confirm the diagnosis before starting treatment.
How many days should I use Pomisol? ▼
Typically 7–10 days twice daily, or as directed by your veterinarian. Do not stop early even if symptoms improve — incomplete treatment leads to recurrence and can make the infection harder to treat next time.
My dog's ear has dark brown wax and a bad smell. What is this? ▼
Dark brown waxy discharge with a bad odour is typically a sign of Malassezia yeast infection — one of the most common ear problems in Indian dogs. Pomisol contains Clotrimazole which directly targets this yeast. Get your vet to confirm before treating.
Can I use Pomisol without a vet prescription? ▼
Pomisol is a prescription medication. We strongly recommend a vet visit before use — ear infections can have different causes (bacterial, fungal, mites, or foreign body) and the right diagnosis ensures the right treatment. Using the wrong treatment can make things worse.
Can Pomisol be used for cats? ▼
The manufacturer primarily indicates Pomisol for dogs. Use in cats should only be done under explicit veterinary direction. Your vet will determine whether it is appropriate for your cat's specific condition.
How do I apply ear drops to a dog who won't sit still? ▼
Have someone gently hold your dog while you lift the ear flap and apply the drops. Massage the base of the ear firmly for 30 seconds — you should hear a squelching sound, which means the drops have reached inside. Let your dog shake its head after. Reward with a treat to make the process easier each time.
