CEPHAVET Oral Suspension contains Cephalexin, a β-lactam, broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is indicated for the treatment of secondary bacterial pyoderma, urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, and bone & joint infections in dogs. The suspension provides easy dosing for small or difficult-to-pill dogs and ensures effective absorption for rapid therapeutic action.

Composition (per 5 ml)

  • Cephalexin I.P. eq. to Cephalexin Anhydrous – 250 mg

  • Excipients – q.s.

  • Colour: Erythrosine

Indications / Uses

  • Secondary superficial bacterial pyoderma (Staphylococcus pseudintermedius)

  • Urinary tract, respiratory tract, bone, and joint infections caused by susceptible bacteria

Dosage & Administration

  • Standard Dose: 15 mg/kg body weight twice daily or 30 mg/kg once daily

  • Example (Weight-based dosing):

    • 5–10 kg → 2–4 ml per day

    • 10–20 kg → 4–8 ml per day

    • 20–30 kg → 8–12 ml per day

  • Shake well before use. Adjust dose as per veterinary guidance and culture & sensitivity results.

Reconstitution Instructions

  1. Slowly add boiled and cooled water up to the ring mark on the bottle.

  2. Shake vigorously to mix.

  3. Adjust volume to the ring mark if necessary.

  4. Each 5 ml of suspension contains 250 mg of cephalexin.

  5. Reconstituted suspension makes 60 ml in total.

Contraindications

  • Dogs with known allergy to cephalexin or β-lactam antibiotics

  • Not for human use

Warnings & Precautions

  • Use with caution in pregnant, lactating, or breeding dogs; safety not established

  • Monitor dogs for allergic reactions or gastrointestinal disturbances

  • Keep out of reach of children

Adverse Reactions

  • Vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite

  • Rare allergic reactions: rash, hives, swelling of lips/tongue/face, unusual bleeding
